JJ, a gorgeous Main Coonish cat, was surrendered to the Lancaster shelter with dental problems. As an 8-year old senior, a few of us were highly motivated to get her rescued or adopted before the shelter manager euthanized her. (There has been a rash of cat and dog killings there since the new manager took over. We bombarded senior management with emails about their failure to notify rescues, per law, before killing.)

I pledged $100 early on hoping that might be sufficient to at least get JJ out of harm’s way. Even before the recent killings, senior cats were never safe for long and difficult to network successfully. I knew that a dental procedure would be several hundred dollars. A non-profit rescue would also have to be an adoption partner with the shelter (requires an application and approval process). No rescue seemed willing to take on JJ. But a Main Coon group stepped forward and outright adopted JJ since they lacked pull rights. Christina Parker drove from Costa Mesa (hours away) to Lancaster to get JJ. Our wishes have been answered. Now that JJ is recuperating in her foster digs, she is happier but still unsure about her surroundings. A vet checkup and bloodwork in 2 days will assess her overall condition. Our paws are crossed for you JJ!
